My grandmother was admitted with an acute surgical emergency. She was quickly seen and her surgical care was exceptionally led by Mr Jamal. He was polite, respectful and kept us informed at all times during a very difficult and worrying time. He ensured her care was individualised and her wishes were respected throughout. The followup and aftercare was excellent, Mr Jamal’s team were kind, caring and always well informed and easily accessible both during her inpatient stay and once discharged. A very caring doctor. I had a slight wound issue after a gallbladder removal and he very kindly rang me himself to offer reassurance. A couple of days later I then had a very bad attack of pain and he fitted me into a clinic that week to check me over. Felt he went the extra mile in patient care. I truly was looked after with great care and attention.

Mr Jamal is a very knowledgable and
caring doctor. He explained everything
to me before surgery & in detail post surgery.
I wanted to add a procedure to my planned
operation, but Mr Jamal explained why
it was in my best interest not to have the
additional procedure. He also managed
to do my operation by keyhole instead of
having to open me up-which was intended.
Mr Jamal has phoned me 3/4 times since
my operation, which has really made me
feel like an important person rather than
just another patient. Thank you

I received thorough and continuous care from Mr Jamal whilst at St Helier hospital. He operated on me to remove my appendix. Although busy, he was generous with his time both before and after surgery to make sure I was okay and always knew what was going on. He was kind, caring and always treated me with respect. I would highly recommend his services.
Profile
I am a consultant general surgeon at Epsom and St Helier Hospital. During my registrar training I specialised in Upper GI and General surgery with a particular interest in gallbladder, hernia and anti reflux surgery. After completing my training I spent 3 years training in endocrine surgery at University College Hospital and Great Ormand Street where I gained a large experience in both paediatric and adult thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery. I was a locum consultant in endocrine surgery at UCLH before starting my permanent position at Epsom and St Helier.
I am committed to providing high standards of patient care and doing everything possible to ensure that patients receive the best treatment possible. I am significantly involved in the teaching and training of surgical trainees and me currently completing a masters thesis in medical education. I am actively involved in research and regularly publish and present the results of these projects.
